Southampton winger Kamaldeen Sulemana has indicated that his future at the club is not solely dependent on him following the team’s relegation from the Premier League.

On the last day of the January transfer window, the Black Stars forward arrived from Stade Rennes for a club record fee of £22 million, but manager Nathan Jones was ousted just 12 days later.

Under Ruben Selles, Sulemana continued in the lineup until he was dropped after a 2-0 loss to Brentford, with the Ghanaian starting only four of the Premier League’s last 11 games.

However, he showed glimpses of his true self on the final day scoring two superb goals to empower the Saints to a thrilling 4-4 draw against Liverpool.

The 21-year-old has not been certain about his future as his team prepares to compete in the Championship next season with his contract running until 2027.

“My future is not in my hands, we don’t know what the future holds. If I am here for the pre-season I will be here and will be ready to put all the hard work needed to bring Southampton back where it belongs,” he told Daily Echo.

He also admitted the difficulties he had in his aim to help Southampton escape relegation.

“I would say that football can be very hard sometimes, especially with the situation we’ve been in – it’s been the hardest.

“I want to play every game and that is the conversation we had and one of the main reasons I tried to move from France – to get game time.
