The Public Relations Officer (P.R.O.) for Ghana Premier League side Real Tamale United, Sey Mubarak, has officially confirmed that the club owes its players a total of three months of unpaid salaries and two winning bonuses, which led to a unanimous decision amongst the players to boycott training on Wednesday ahead of their last game of the season on Sunday.
RTU go into the Sunday final game of the season with no worries of getting relegated after cementing a place in the 2023–24 BetPawa Premier League season after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Accra Hearts of Oak on matchday 33, but face a possible setback after players threatened to boycott their game against King Faisal due to unpaid salaries.
Speaking on Max 89.7 FM, Mubarak confirmed that the club owes three months of salary and two winning bonuses from the RTU versus Bechem United and Accra Hearts of Oak games, which compelled the players of the club to boycott training and threaten not to show up for the final match of the season against King Faisal until all arrears have been settled.
“We showed up at training this morning, and only the kit manager was here and not a single player. I think the players have made a unanimous decision to boycott training”, Sey Mubarak said.
On what the club is doing to address the issue, he added, “Management is finding a solution to the problem, and the CEO of the club will be meeting with the players today to resolve the issue.”
