Confederation of Africa Football ( CAF) is one of the most lucrative and popular football confederation in the sporting world.
The continent football body has 54 football associations as its members, and grouped into 6 (subsidiaries) in each region; UNAF (North Africa), WAFU (West Africa), UNIFFAC (Central Africa), CECAFA (East Africa), COSAFA (Southern Africa).
Africa football became popular on world stage following Morocco’s historic world cup performance in the last FIFA World Cup Competition held in Qatar.
Over the years, players exodus in Africa has increased and currently Europe now the home of Africa footballers with over 60% players plying their trades as professional based stars.
As at now, most African Leagues are finding it difficult to maintain their stars due to financial state of the domestic top-flights.
North African Leagues are doing well with only 20% of their players playing in abroad following the financial strength of their leagues.
In our latest 2022/23 Edition, our current data indicates that most professional players in some topflight leagues in Africa are still taking below “$100” as monthly salary.
And that has indeed caused the progress of Africa and key reasons the continent keep loosing its future stars to the Europeans, Asians and Americans.
Prize Money in Sports
Is money that is given as a reward or an award for winning a competition or achieving something great.
In our latest edition of the Various African league and their prize money, we found out that up to now, 25% football associations in Africa are still given as low as $6,000 as prize money for the winner of their domestic league despite playing more than 30 matches in either 7-8 months period.
The latest data shows, South Africa PSL league is still leading the chart as African football league with highest prize money after comprehensive research on 48 countries.

The data shows that, the winner of the 2022/23 South Africa DSTV league was awarded $867,000.
The Egyptian Premier League according Arab Africa football also revealed $308,000 as prize money for this season league.
Morocco’s Botola league comes third with $296,000 announced before the season.
One of the Africa’s biggest economy, Nigeria ranked 4th on the list with $216,00 which is far ahead of their football brothers Ghana.
The 2022/23 winner of the Ghanaian topflight league sponsored by betting giant Betpawa were given $26,000.
Tanzania, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Botswana and Angola are all in top 10.

Meanwhile, these countries have the lowest prize money in the 2022/23 Edition.
Soa Prince Tome, Chad, Zimbabwe, Djibouti, Seychelles, Somalia, Mauritania, Comoros pays around $5,700 to their respective winners.

Newly joined CAF member, La Réunion Island is currently the Africa nation with lowest prize money of $2,000.
