In a bid to address what he sees as the current challenges within Ghanaian football, George Afriyie has taken a significant step by entering the race for the Presidency of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) this year.
During a media interaction last Friday, following the submission of his nomination to contest the presidency, George Afriyie expressed his determination to shed light on the alleged mismanagement of football affairs under the leadership of GFA President Kurt Okraku.
Afriyie accused Okraku of focusing on accumulating wealth for himself and his Dreams Football Club rather than fostering the broader interests of the sport.
Afriyie highlighted what he perceives as a skewed distribution of benefits, stating, “You are made to believe Kurt Okraku is making wealth for all. It is a good thing, but the truth is he is making wealth for Dreams FC. Shine your eyes.”
Furthermore, Afriyie drew attention to potential financial gains by stating, “If three of his team members make it to the World Cup and each gets $100,000, how much are they making? What about Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko, and other clubs?”
With his sights set on the GFA Presidency, George Afriyie has pledged to leverage his knowledge and information to reveal what he believes to be the true state of Ghanaian football under Kurt Okraku’s leadership.
Through his campaign, Afriyie intends to provide delegates and stakeholders with insights that he believes will uncover the realities of the situation and influence the course of Ghanaian football for the better.
