President of the Ghana Football Association Kurt Okraku hopes to clamp down on the rampant departure of players from the Ghanaian football scene.
The Ghana Premier League has seen major exists of their top players during crunch times or at the ends of the recent season.
Most players who turn out to perform well joined other clubs on the continent or move to Europe for greener pastures.
Notably, Asante Kotoko lost Kwame Opoku to USM Algiers in the fine parts of the 2020/21 season and it affected their league title chase.
The attacker could not produce the good numbers in the Ghana Premier League and had to depart for Olympique Khourigba in Morocco.
Another fine instance is the departure of Tamale City forward, Sampson Eduku, who has moved to the Iraqi league.
Speaking to the media, the Ghana FA boss said it will take time to curb player exodus due to inadequate funds.
“If we are able to improve the economic health of our league, club owners will be able to
get more resources to invest in their clubs and also invest in the players.
It’s gradual process, which will take time but the FA has shown clear commitment toward improving the economic health of our GPL”.
The 2023/24 Ghana Premier League starts September 15, 2023.
