Ghanaian comedian and actor Akabenezer, known in private life as Ebenezer Akwasi Antwi has revealed he played for Accra Hearts of Oak for a short period before turning his focus to acting.
In an interview with a Kumasi-based radio station, the popular skit actor explained how he went for trials at Auroras, the junior side of the Glorious Accra Hearts of Oak, with friend, Louis Agyemang, in the early 2000s, before moving to the senior side.
“I played for Auroras alongside Louis Agyemang, in the early 2000s but my football career was short-lived. We were among five players to go for trials to prove our worth, and while both Louis Agyemang and I were selected, I didn’t get as much playing time as he did,” he began.
“Our trials were arranged by former Black Starlets Team Manager named Adabanka. It was Louis Agyemang who made successfully made the transition. We were the pioneers who brought second division to Tafo [where he begun his football career as a defender] and it is worth noting that the best footballer from the Ashati region is from Tafo,” he added.
