Black Stars defender Gideon Mensah has expressed confidence in his side’s ability to recover from the disappointing defeat to Cape Verde in their opening game of the Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday night.
The four-time AFCON winners were left reeling after a late goal from Rodrigues after Alexander Djiku cancelled out Monteiro’s opener in the first half.
Gideon Mensah, who clearly was lacking concern and awareness when Rodrigues pounced on a lost ball after goalkeeper Richard Ofori completely missed the ball to score, says his teammates want to make themselves proud when they face Egypt in their next game.
“We are disappointed. Obviously, it’s the start of the tournament; it’s not how we wanted to start, but the good thing is, we have another game that we can come up with the head up and make ourselves proud again.”
A defeat to Egypt on Thursday, January 18, will spell doom for Ghana and under-fire coach Chris Hughton.
