The Ghana U20 men’s national team are champions of the men’s football tournament at the 13th African Games.
Nicknamed the Black Satellites, the Ghanaian side defeated Uganda by a goal to nil on Friday night to secure gold at the games being hosted in Ghana.
It was all thanks to an injury times stunner from striker Jerry Afriyie.
Today’s final was played at the Accra Sports Stadium with the football fans filling the house to capacity.
In a game that promised so much due to the impressive showing on the two youth national teams, it did not disappoint.
The contest was pulsating as both Ghana and Uganda fought throughout the game to look for the win.
Despite the good displays of the two finalists, neither side could score until added time of the second half when the deadlock was broken.
Black Satellites forward Jerry Afriyie picked a pass form the edge of the Uganda box and fired an unstoppable low drive that found the back of the net to win the game for Ghana.
The victory gives the Black Satellites the gold medal in the men’s football tournament at the 13th African Games.
The same feat was achieved by the Black Princesses on Thursday night when they beat Nigeria 2-1 to win gold in the women’s football tournament.
