Legendary Asante Kotoko figure, Wilberforce Mfum, has sparked controversy with his recent remarks suggesting that fans should have physically disciplined the Kotoko players following the team’s string of poor performances.

In an interview with Akoma FM, Mfum expressed his frustration with team’s recent decline in form, which has seen the team plummet to ninth place in the Ghana Premier League standings and suffer early elimination from the FA Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors recorded four consecutive losses for the first time in 14 years after their recent defeat to Nations FC.

The 87-year-old emphasised that such results are unacceptable for the passionate supporters of the club.

Mfum speaking to Akoma FM in an interview advised the players to be dedicated to the team.

“The only advice I have for the players is that before wearing Kotoko’s jersey, they must be dedicated and have the team at heart, always play for the team with full commitment, and not with lazy attitude”.

These comments come amidst growing pressure from fans for a turnaround in the team’s fortunes.

“I think the players have never been beaten before, they should have been beaten by the fans after losing streak so they understand their worth. How can you be bought with a large sum of money and then given such a poor performance? He quizzed.

With the team trailing the league leaders by ten points, the upcoming fixture against Bechem United at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park in Bechem carries significant importance for Porcupine Wariors’ season.
