Samartex FC is currently ranked first in the Ghana Premier League, with 55 points after 31 games and just three games left to secure the title.
The team’s impressive run this season has been aided by the use of advanced data analysis software, according to business development manager Paul Anyaba.
The software, which cost $4,600 last season, allows the team to track the performance of each player during training sessions. The tracker, which is worn like a blouse, is able to monitor the player’s heart condition, work rate, and other key metrics. This data is then analyzed by the team’s analyst, who provides the coach with detailed reports on each player’s performance.
According to Anyaba, this data-driven approach has helped the coach make more informed decisions about which players to select for each game.
“We have a data that we use to track all the players their training we have the tracker some call it brassiere what they wear like blouse it is a tracker. It is able to tell the heart condition of the player, the work rate and all that. We use them I think we are the only club in Ghana at least in the top tier that have it,” he told Asaase Radio.
“And so based on that the analyst is able to give us the output of all our players so when a coach has to drop player A or B it is not based on sentiments. Now the coach is able to know that if I am going to an away game that I am going to chase I am going to play more defensive the opponent is good in possession and he will need players who will run with the ball and do a lot of tackles it is this tracker that is going to help the coach who to pick.
“So it is not based on sentiments we have one of the most advance data software we bought it for $4,600 last season it is the most advance than Veo,”
Samartex FC is currently preparing for their next game against Bibiani Gold Stars on matchday 32 of the Ghana Premier League campaign.
