Black Stars legend and former captain, Stephen Appiah, has reacted sharply to CAF’s ruling of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as unfit to host international games by calling it a “national embarrassment”.
The ruling by Africa’s football governing body means that Ghana has no stadium to host international football games or Category 3 games as the Baba Yara Stadium was the last edifice approved by CAF to do so.
Writing on his X (formerly Twitter) page that has gone viral, the former Juventus and Fenerbache midfielder Stephen Appiah was far from impressed about the situation.
“Playing a qualifier outside Ghana, except in a tournament, is a national embarrassment. We must prioritize hosting our own games and protect our football pride.”
Appiah led Ghana to its first FIFA World Cup appearance in 2006 and competed with the Black Stars at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
