Hearts of Oak Public Relations Officer Kwame Opare Addo has stated that the team will learn valuable lessons from their opening-day defeat to Basake Holy Stars in the Ghana Premier League.
The match ended in a surprising 1-0 loss for the Phobians at the Accra Sports Stadium, leaving fans frustrated and disappointed.

Opare Addo reflected on the team’s performance, expressing that while they had hoped for a perfect start to the season, the outcome was not what they expected.

“We don’t want what happened to us last season to happen again. We would have liked a perfect start, but it didn’t happen. That’s not what we all expected,” he told Asempa FM.

Despite the disappointment, Opare Addo emphasised the importance of moving forward.

“But that will teach us some lessons to take forward in the competition. Going forward, we have to be much more competitive, purposeful, and stronger than what we did in the first game,” he added.

He acknowledged the pain of losing in front of home fans, stating, “We won’t say that because we didn’t win the first match it doesn’t matter; if we had gotten the win, we would have liked it. It is painful.”

Looking ahead, Hearts of Oak are determined to focus on their next game against Heart of Lions, aiming to regroup and improve their performance in the league.
