Kwesi Appiah took Ghana to the 2014 FIFA World Cup and later to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations but was dismissed afterwards.

After hiring other coaches, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) settled on Otto Addo to lead the team.

He managed to qualify the Black Stars for the 2022 FIFA World Cup but resigned after the team’s group-stage exit,

He was reappointed in 2023.

His second spell has not gone as planned in the qualifiers for the 2025 AFCON as Ghana are on the brink of missing out with the only chance dependent on winning their remaining games while Sudan lose theirs.

The fate of the Black Stars was pronounced after Sudan, led by Kwesi Appiah, held them at home to a goalless draw and beat them 2-0 in the return leg, played in neutral Libya.

Speaking after the defeat, Otto Addo says he finds some difficulty in being compared with Kwesi Appiah.

“It is very difficult to compare me with Kwesi Appiah,” he said.

“Kwesi Appiah has his own personality, has his own strength, his own strategy and I am a different person and I have my own personality and my own strategies and my own tactics.

“We are both Ghanaians, that’s true but it’s difficult to compare.”
