Most of the facilities are in an extremely deplorable state, which Jonas Kabutey blamed on the failure of the ruling regime and the former Member of Parliament for Evalue Gwira, Hon.Catheline Ablema Afeku and Municipal Chief Executive Officer, Hon Eric Essien after an audit of awarded contracts.

According to the Human Rights Advocate, He lamented the pains following numerous times of prompting the government and the municipality over the delayed facility.

The project which began in September 2018, started rapidly but work began to slow down immediately after Hon.Catherine Ablema Afeku was thrown out from the parliament by an NDC Parliamentary Candidate Hon.Kofi Arko Nokoe.

Jonas Kabutey revealed that, the immediate past Member of Parliament has been the blocking stone for the completion of Axim Sports Complex.

He further added that, the project was stalled following the removal of Hon Catherine Ablema Afeku as the Member of Parliament and Minister for Tourism.

Kabutey explains the former Member of Parliament failed to push for the progress of the work following the electorates decision to voted her out in the 2020 Parliamentary Elections.

” I am very sad about the current state of this project, as the Youth Speaker of the Municipal, it’s my duty and responsibility to ensure the progress of the work, but here I don’t understand, because this project was first started in Ghana, but no improvement, I feel really sad, Secondly I have been told by the contractor that they are coming to commission this facility, How on earth! to commissioning something which is still under construction or uncompleted”, he said

Jonas Kabutey who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Participation Network added that, the Sports Complex project has now turned into politics, if not how can sports complex started in 2018 remained “uncompleted” but Ho Sports Complex and Wa Sports Complex which began a year ago are about to be commissioned this month.

” And again from a reliable source, I have been told Hon Catherine Ablema Afeku is practically behind this mafia work, because she wants people to see how important she was when lobbying for the project, So since it has been abandoned, the people may feel her presence” this is absolutely sad, if what I am hearing is true, it shouldn’t happen in that way”, he added.

“The youth here and the entire Nzema as well as Western Region needs this facility to identify talents to produce sports men as woman that’s why we are pleading the government to complete the project”, he noted.

The Municipal Youth Parliament and the Brawire youth staged demonstration in May this year against the government over the stalled Axim Sports Complex and the deplorable state of the Brawire road.

The demonstrators led by Jonas Kabutey submitted their petitions through the Municipal Assembly but the government have gone deaf ears and nothing has been done since August 2024.

In an exclusive interview with the site contractor, he revealed that his firm is also waiting for the government’s clearance and financial assistance to complete the project.

The Axim Sports Complex if completed is expected to have a FIFA standard playing field, Volleyball and Basketball Courts, Lawn Tennis, Restaurant, ICT Laboratory and others.
