Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has dismissed criticism, stating that he remains unfazed by it, having faced much more challenging situations throughout his career.
Speaking to the press on Sunday ahead of Ghana’s final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium, Addo reflected on the team’s struggles.
Ghana’s hopes of qualifying for next year’s tournament in Morocco were dashed after a 1-1 draw with Angola last week, leaving them winless after five matches in the qualifiers.
The lack of qualification has led to mounting pressure on Addo, with many calling for his departure.
However, the German-born coach, who has faced significant adversity throughout his life, explained that he has dealt with far tougher challenges in the past.
“I think this is part of the job. I knew what to expect when I took this job…it’s kind of normal. I grew up in Germany in an environment with a lot of white people, a lot of racists, a lot of hatred, and for me, I went through a lot in my life to even be a footballer. I worked a lot and was the same as a coach.”
“I always have to fight my way through, so it (criticism) doesn’t affect me, to be honest, because I went through so much. I know where I’m coming from,” he added.
The match against Niger is scheduled to kick off at 16:00 GMT.
