The Anokyi Community triumphed over Kamgbunli with a 2-1 penalty victory to win the 2024 Ellembelle MP’s Cup Football Tournament, which concluded on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the Awuale Amihere Kpanyinli Sports Arena.
The thrilling finale treated soccer enthusiasts to a spectacular display of skill and excitement, culminating in a two-goal showdown.
Anokyi Community, the hot favourites, narrowly defeated Kamgbunli, earning a reward of GH¢8,000, the championship trophy, and gold medals. Kamgbunli, the runners-up, received GH¢4,000 and silver medals.
In the third-place playoff, Alabokazo overcame Menzizor 4-3 in a penalty shootout. Alabokazo secured GH¢2,000 and bronze medals, while Menzizor took home GH¢1,000.
Augustine Ofori, also known as Kaka from Anokyi was named Best Player, outshining challengers Kojo Mahama and Stephen Akani from Kamgbunli. Anokyi’s goalkeeper, Francis Kabenla ( Hernandez), was honoured as the Best Goalkeeper, while Milito of Anokyi received the Golden shoe award. Menzizor player “Iniesta” was recognized as the Most Promising Player of the tournament.
Hon.Armah Kofi Buah, the tournament headline sponsor, expressed gratitude to the players and residents of the participating communities for their support in making the event a success.
He commended the teams for their professionalism and competitive spirit.
“The level of competition has improved, and I am happy most of the talents have been identified and we look forward to helping them develop them through Ellembelle Sports Complex ,” Hon.Buah remarked.
He emphasized his office and Party NDC commitment to sports development in the country, noting that Ellembelle MP’s Cup serves as a means of discovering talents in the district.
Hon.Armah Kofi is the Parliamentary Candidate for the National Democratic Congress ( NDC) in the upcoming General Elections on December 7.
The former Energy Minister currently served as the Deputy Majority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament.
