Asante Kotoko Coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, has praised the signing of striker Sampson Eduku, highlighting his potential to boost the team’s performance in the Ghana Premier League.

Eduku, who signed a one-and-a-half-year contract with the Porcupine Warriors on a free transfer after leaving Iraqi side Al Hedod in July 2024, is expected to make an immediate impact. This signing addresses Kotoko’s need for a consistent goal scorer to bolster their title hopes.

Dr. Ogum expressed strong confidence in Eduku’s abilities.

“Sampson is a proven goal scorer with great versatility and experience,” the coach stated. “His ability to score goals and create chances for his teammates will add a new dimension to our attack. We’re excited to welcome him and believe he’ll make an immediate impact in the league.” This statement emphasizes the strategic importance of Eduku’s addition to the Kotoko squad.

Eduku’s signing aligns with Dr. Ogum’s plan to build a strong squad capable of competing for domestic and continental titles, including the Ghana Premier League. The 29-year-old striker is not new to the league, having played for Tamale City in the 2022/23 season, where he scored 14 goals and provided 3 assists in 27 matches. These impressive performances earned him a move to Iraqi club Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya. He later joined another Iraqi side, Al Hedod Sporting Club, before becoming a free agent in the summer of 2024. This experience in both the Ghana Premier League and international football makes him a valuable asset.

Eduku has also played for various other Ghanaian clubs, including Karela United, FC Samartex 1996, and Elmina Sharks FC. His familiarity with the local league is a key factor in Kotoko’s decision to sign him.

Kotoko currently occupies 6th place in the Ghana Premier League with 28 points after 16 matches. Having struggled to find consistent scoring form this season, Kotoko’s acquisition of Eduku is a significant boost to their title hopes. The team has relied heavily on Albert Amoah, and Eduku’s arrival is expected to provide much-needed support and competition in the attacking third. This lack of consistent scoring has been a key weakness that the club hopes Eduku will resolve.

“Since I came, I have seen how big Asante Kotoko is,” Eduku said in his first interview with the club. “I am very happy because every player wants to play for a big club. If you look around Ghana, Asante Kotoko is the biggest club in the country.” This quote highlights Eduku’s excitement about joining such a prestigious club.

Sampson Eduku also praised the welcoming atmosphere within the club, highlighting the respect and unity among the players. “Since I came, the players I socialized with, from training to the clubhouse, there is that respect. Everyone respects each other; there is no discrimination because you didn’t come in with them.” This positive environment should help Eduku settle in quickly.
