Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has sparked widespread disappointment, with the team enduring a winless qualifying campaign. However, Okraku believes that, with unity and determination, Black Stars can rise again.

“With the announcement of both the management committee of the Black Stars and a revamped technical team, it’s now our time to be truly Ghanaian and get behind our team once again,” Okraku urged in a statement.

“Ghana, our beloved country, has gone through this challenging period before, but by sticking together, we always came out stronger. In humility, determination, and oneness, we have and will bring smiles back to our people with your support.”

The technical restructuring includes the appointment of Winfried Anton Schäfer, a 2002 AFCON-winning coach with Cameroon, as Technical Advisor and Director of Football. Schäfer, with over 40 years of coaching experience, will work closely with head coach Otto Addo to rebuild the Black Stars.

Also joining the team is Desmond Ofei, the 2024 SWAG Coach of the Year and architect of Ghana’s African Games gold medal-winning U-20 side. Belgian sports psychologist Kris Perquy and UEFA-licensed video analyst Gregory De Grauwe have also been recruited to enhance the team’s mental strength and tactical preparation.

Joh Paintsil remains at post as assistant coach, with Fatau Dauda retaining his role as goalkeepers coach. However, Joseph Lauman has been relieved of his duties.

Despite recent setbacks, Okraku is calling on fans to show unwavering support as the team embarks on a fresh chapter.

“Our players need you!! Our players need us… It is time!!!!” he stressed.

The Black Stars are now shifting focus to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where they must regain momentum and restore faith in the national team.
