He recalled how in 2016 an act was passed by Parliament to get a school sports agency to ensure that sports at that level is taken more seriously.

He has, therefore, promised to run sports at that level more seriously.

The Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency made this known during his vetting on Thursday, January 30.

He faced the Appointments Committee of Parliament after a marathon of vetting involving the Minister-designate for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam Nartey George.

Kofi Adams’ vetting had been postponed from Wednesday due to the hauling before the committee of social activist Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor over some bribery allegations against the Majority members on the Committee.

With Adams’ vetting set for another postponement, members reached a consensus to have him appear to wrap up the day.

Prior to the exercise, two supporter groups, who supposedly came to rally behind the nominee, clashed over right of attendance to the main hall.

The Ranking Member of the Committee, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who is also the Minority Leader, later deferred his right of question to another MP.

Answering questions from the Minority MP, Kofi Adams promised to ensure heightened collaboration between the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ghana Education Service (GES) “to collaborate to make sure school sports improve”.

He said currently school sports is organised biennially, resulting in some students not engaging in sports at all till they reach their final year.

He also promised to give tax exemptions to firms who import sporting equipment for use in schools and by clubs.
