Head coach of the disgruntled Nations FC, Kassim Mingle, has expressed his utmost disappointment about what transpired at Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli Sports Arena on matchweek 33 of the Ghana Premier League.
Nations FC were ordered by Dr Kwame Kyei, patron and owner, to walk off the pitch in protest of unfair referee calls and gross disrespect by the home team, Basake Holy Stars.
Basake Holy Stars were looking to avoid the drop to Division One, while Nations were in pole position to clinch the 2024/25 GPL title as they locked horns on Sunday, June 1.
Following the questionable officiating by match officials, refusal entry of media personnel, and inadequate security at the match venue claimed by Nations FC, Kassim Mingle and his team resorted to the difficult decision to stage a walk-off.
Speaking on Max FM’s Sports Pack show, Coach Mingle said, “I am very, very disappointed because after all the hard work, such a thing happens during the last but two matches to end the league.”
It is unclear as to what the league leaders would decide after all that had happened, as their closest challengers, Bibiani Gold Stars had won their game away at the Golden City Park in Sunyani against Berekum Chelsea.
