President of the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA), Ibrahim Tanko, has called on the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) to raise the bar as hosts of the upcoming 2026 GUSA Games.
UEW has officially been confirmed as the host institution for the next edition of the prestigious multi-sport university competition and has already signaled its readiness to deliver a remarkable tournament.
The university aims to surpass the benchmark set by the University of Ghana, Legon, which hosted the last edition of the Games.
Speaking at the official inauguration of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) on UEW’s campus, Tanko urged the university to lead by example and create a model for future hosts.
“UEW is a leading institution, and we expect it to set the pace for others to follow,” Tanko said. “The last edition was extraordinary, and though the University of Ghana made great efforts to improve upon it, it still couldn’t quite match what UEW had previously achieved.
Now, we’re counting on UEW to build on that foundation. Whether the resources are available or not, we hope the outcome will be exceptional.”
He also extended his best wishes to the newly inaugurated LOC, urging its members to work diligently and cohesively to meet the expectations placed on them.
With the LOC now officially in place, preparations for the 2026 Games are set to begin in earnest.
The university community and the wider sporting fraternity will be watching closely as UEW takes on the responsibility of delivering what is expected to be one of the most successful GUSA Games in recent history.
