Black Queens midfielder Jennifer Cudjoe says losing to Morocco in the semifinals of the 2024 CAF Women’s AFCON really hurts.
She said this in a post-game interview after Ghana lost 4-2 to the host nation in a penalty shootout after drawing 1-1 at the end of regulation time and extra time.
Asantewaa as Ghana completed its second straight game after extra time. The Black Queens beat Algeria on penalties in the quarterfinals.
Despite dominating the first half and the early portions of the second half, Ghana failed to take advantage of its chances and Cudjoe believes the team gave everything to secure the win.
“This one [loss to Morocco] actually hurts. I feel like we gave everything. It just hurts because I feel like we deserve to be in the final but also I’m very proud of the team.”
“We didn’t give up, we proved to everyone that we can do something and hopefully the next game, we can get a medal. We still have hope but in general I’m just proud of the team…we should have made our chances but it just hurts. I’m sad” Cudjoe said.
Ghana take on South Africa in the bronze medal game on Friday, July 25 at 19:00 GMT while Morocco take on Nigeria in the final game on Saturday, July 26 at 20:00 GMT.
