Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club have lost their opening game in this year’s GHALCA Top 4 competition after falling to Bibiani Gold Stars.
The competition which features the top ranked teams from the immediate past Ghana Premier League campaign, kicked off on Wednesday, August 20 at the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon.
The Porcupine Warriors lost 2-1 to Ghana Premier League Champions Gold Stars with the winning goal coming via an eye catching own goal scored by Kotoko’s Henry Ansu in the 63rd minute.
At half time, the game was tied at 1-1 with Gold Stars bagging the equalizer from the penalty spot through Samuel Atta Kumi in the 21st minute after Kotoko captain Samba O’Neil committed a foul in the penalty box.
Kotoko striker Albert Amoah scored the game’s first goal in the 16th minute but his side missed big chances and got punished for their wastefulness when a strong back pass from Ansu beat goalkeeper Mohammed Camara to end up in the net.
The FA Cup winners next take on Kpando Heart of Lions and Accra Hearts of Oak next on August 22 and August 24.
