Following recent domestic, continental and international success, the CONMEBOL champions add the FIFA Challenger Cup to their haul.

Filipe Luís’s side defeat CAF Champions League winners Pyramids in Qatar to claim their second FIFA title in three days.

The Brazilian champions qualify for the FIFA Intercontinental Cup Qatar 2025™ final against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
Flamengo have continued a fantastically fruitful fortnight by claiming the FIFA Challenger Cup following a decisive 2-0 victory against Pyramids in Al Rayyan, Qatar.

The recently crowned CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores winners and 2025 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A champions added to their haul three nights ago by defeating Concacaf Champions Cup winners Cruz Azul to claim the FIFA Derby of the Americas title. At Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, to the west of Qatar’s capital city of Doha, they edged out a valiant Pyramids team to add a fourth crown to their trophy cabinet.

Victory in Al Rayyan also means they will now have the chance to compete for a fifth trophy – the FIFA Intercontinental Cup Qatar 2025™ presented by Aramco – against UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain. The match will take place on Wednesday, with the winners ending the calendar year as intercontinental champions.

FIFA Derby of the Americas™ star Giorgian de Arrascaeta was once again at the centre of proceedings, and fans did not have to wait long for an encore after he scored both goals in Flamengo’s win over Cruz Azul three days ago didn’t have to wait long.

Midway through the opening period, the playmaker delivered a perfectly weighted free-kick that was met by the head of Leo Pereira, powering the Rio giants into the lead. Seven minutes after the restart, it was de Arrascaeta again who laid on the second with another delightful set-piece. This time — as he did to win the Copa Libertadores in November — it was Danilo on the end of it, rising to deliver a decisive header in a big moment in a big match. Filipe Luís’ side hung on, despite some valiant pressure from Pyramids, to claim a 2–0 victory and book their place in the final round of the 2025 edition.

Following Mexican side Pachuca’s success in the inaugural 2024 edition of the FIFA Challenger Cup, Flamengo are the first winners to hail from South America and the first team from the continent to compete in the final of the revised format of the competition.

The FIFA Intercontinental Cup™ final will also take place at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, with kick-off at 20:00 local time on Wednesday.
