Four managers linked with Ghana Black Stars job
Following the dismissal of Ghana Black Stars head coach Charles Akonnor this week, four candidates have been linked with the job, including French manager Herve Renard.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) officially dismissed Akonnor, along with his two assistants, on Monday following an underwhelming run of results, the lats of which was a 1-0 loss to South Africa last Monday.
The Executive Council of the GFA announced in a statement that it would identify a new manager within three days of Akonnor’s dismissal.
“The Executive Council has formed a three (3) Member Committee made up of Vice President Mark Addo, Upper East Regional Football Association Chairman, Alhaji Salifu Zida, and Dr. Randy Abbey to find a Head Coach and Assistant Coaches for the Black Stars within the next 72 hours,” the statement read.

According to multiple sources, who reported on Akonnor’s dismissal before it was officially announced, former Morocco head coach Renard could take over the Black Stars’ reins.
Renard, who is currently the Saudi Arabia national team’s boss, has held several managerial roles on the African continent in the past, including spells with Zambia and Ivory Coast, with whom he won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2012 and 2015, respectively.
There are also reports, though, that the African nation may struggle to pay the Frenchman the salary he is getting with Saudi Arabia.
Other names linked with the vacant position are Borussia Dortmund trainer scout Otto Addo, Ghana’s current technical director Bernhard Lippert, and their former national team manager Ibrahim Tanko.
