The South African Football Association (SAFA) says it will get ‘experts to make a strong case’ against the 1-0 defeat to Ghana that denied them a place in the playoffs of 2022 World Cup African qualifiers.

The Chief Executive Officer of the association Tebogo Motlanthe confirmed Monday of his outfit’s resolve to seek justice from Fifa and Caf over the alleged “dubious” penalty Andre Ayew scored.

Bafana Bafana needed to avoid defeat against Black Stars to progress as Group G winners, but they were unable to grind that result at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium last night.

But Motlanthe says they won’t allow the call to destroy the group of players and have already submitted a formal complaint about the officiating led by Senegal’s Maguette Ndiaye.

“The match officials decided the game which is not supposed to happen, so we as the association have decided that we will be writing to CAF and FIFA to investigate how the game was handled and secondly to also challenge some of the decisions,” he said.

“As we did last night we already registered with the match commissioner that we’ve already written a formal letter of complaint and today we’re travelling of course [back to South Africa].

“We feel robbed because it’s not an isolated decision of the penalty, there are many questionable decisions from match officials and that’s why we’ll get experts to make a strong case.”
