Al Ahly boss Pitso Mosimane says European clubs do not trust the tactical abilities of African coaches.
The South African believes coaching in Europe as an African is not about how good you are, but there are no opportunities to breakthrough.
“Well Europe is not ready for us that’s the fact of the matter, Europe is not ready for Africans,” he said on Johannesburg-based Radio 702.
“Even those who played there, Dwight Yorke, I had a conversation with Dwight Yorke, I mean [a] superstar of Man United, scoring goals for Man United in England. He told me straight, I was with him and was with Owen Hargreaves and all those guys.
“He told me straight ‘Pitso don’t even think about it. If we have scored so many goals for those teams and we not yet managers when we have badges and qualifications, it’s going to be tough to come over here’.
“And you can see this straight, Europe is not ready for Africans. It’s not how much what you can do. It’s a little of trust and all that so, but we okay we’re doing well, if we’re not here we can go home. We still have a life.”
The 57-year-old former South Africa and Mamelodi Sundowns coach, who won three Caf Champions League titles, is considered as one of the best coaches to come from Africa.
It remains to be seen if he will get an opportunity to manage in one of the top leagues in Europe.
