The National Task Force of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Limited has cut power supply to parts of the Accra Sports Stadium due to debt owed to the company.
The Accra Sports Stadium was disconnected on Wednesday as part of efforts to reduce the debts of the company and according to Nene Shadrack Mase, the national stadium owed the ECG over GH¢500,000
When Citi News visited the premises of the Accra Sports stadium at about 4:55 pm on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, two power generators were running concurrently to keep some offices operational.
Addressing Citi Sports, the Deputy Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) Majeed Bawa said the power cut will not affect games to be played at the Accra Sports Stadium.
“In all our facilities, there is an installation of a transformer which has a total cost of Ghc5,000 whether you use it or not, and that has affected us greatly. We have petitioned the ECG several times and that is why our bills seem high.
“ECG wants us to pay 70% of the debt, and so we are talking to them because it is not easy. We are not in a position to make that deposit, but we will make a deposit and then wait to be reconnected to the national grid, but this won’t influence the games that will be played,” Majeed Bawa stated
