Anthony Elanga chooses Sweden over Cameroon, England

Manchester United young attacker Anthony Elanga will represent his country of birth at international football. He started his youth football with IF Elfsborg and Malmö FF in Sweden, then moved to Manchester United youth system at age 12. He made his first team debut for the Red Devils in 2020/21 in a preseason game against Aston Villa, coming on as a substitute for Marcus Rashford on the 75th minute.

Being eligible to play for Sweden, Cameroon and England. He represented Sweden at the U-17, U-19 and U-21 level. Elanga played five times for the Sweden under-17 team and scored two goals, both against France in the 2019 UEFA European Under-17 Championship. He played his first game for the Sweden under-21 team and scored one goal in a friendly against Finland on 3 June 2021.

Elanga chose to represent Sweden at a senior level and was named in the squad for the World Cup qualifier game against Czech Republic.

He said in an interview “I was born in Sweden, I spent 75 per cent of my life here and Sweden means a lot to me. Everyone knows that I could have represented Cameroon and England but, for me, it was always Sweden. It is a dream to represent Sweden at this level.”
