An Egypt star has insisted that victory over Senegal in the second leg of their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying play-off will prove that the Pharaohs deserved to win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 10 remaining African nations competing for a spot at Qatar 2022 will know their fate on Tuesday night, when five of those countries will advance to the showpiece later this year.

Egypt hold a slender advantage over opponents Senegal after winning the first leg 1-0 at the Cairo International Stadium on Friday, courtesy of an own goal by Saliou Ciss.

While the North African giants might have tasted a bit of revenge after finishing as runners-up at the continental showpiece in Cameroon last month, goalkeeper Mohamed Abou-Gabal, who was one of Egypt’s standout performers at that tournament, feels that overcoming their opponents on Tuesday night will show they were deserving of the Afcon crown.
