Following the conclusion of the African 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Nigeria have continued to climb in FIFA’s latest world rankings. Here are the highest-ranked African teams today!
Despite Senegal securing their ticket to Qatar after overcoming Egypt this week, the Lions of Teranga saw their ranking drop from 18th to 20th, while the Pharaohs went in the opposite direction as they climbed in the latest update of the world rankings, from 34th position to 32.
Nigeria, who lost in the recent play-off finals, have also jumped two places up the overall ranking after two consecutive draws with Ghana. The Super Eagles are now ranked 30th in the world, which keeps them in Africa’s top three.
Tunisia bounced back from the setback they suffered in the previous rankings, which saw them drop down after a shock defeat to Burkina Faso at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Jalel Kadri’s men have now climbed back up one position after they overcame Mali to qualify for Qatar 2022 this week.
Ivory Coast and the Malians still find themselves in the top 10 despite their recent defeats, while Burkina Faso complete the top 10. Ghana who just qualified to the World Cup is not part of the Africa top 10 nations.
