REPORTS: Kotoko renew hunt for Shafiu Mumuni
Kumasi Asante Kotoko have renewed their hunt for former Ashantigold striker, Shafiu Mumuni, in a bid to make a meaningful impact in the CAF Champions League, according to a report close to the player.
Reports indicates that Shafiu Mumuni, the most prolific striker in the country currently, is being chased by Kotoko’s Head Coach, Maxwell Konadu, to beef up his squad for the next African campaign of the Porcupine Warriors.
Konadu, who badly needs a goal poacher to complete his team, has since approached the former Ashgold talisman on the possibility of joining the Porcupine family.
Mumuni, a former striker of Ashgold, decided not to renew his contract when it expired on July 1, having achieved everything on the local scene with the Miners in his seven-year stint with the club.
In an exclusive interview with Graphic Sports, Mumuni, who took the 2019 ESPN WAFU Cup by storm in Senegal last October, confirmed that Coach Konadu had asked for his services as he wanted him to be a key part of Kotoko’s CAF Champions League assault.
“For now, I am a free player. Kotoko Coach, Maxwell Konadu, called me and discussed with me about the possibility of playing for Kotoko and helping him in their CAF Champions League campaign, so I asked him to contact my manager since he decides my future.
