Ghana 3-0 Madagascar
Ghana opened their Group E campaign with a 3-0 victory over Madagascar at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
Madagascar held their own in the first stanza but Mohammed Kudus broke their resistance eight minutes into the second stanza as he put Ghana ahead.
Felix Afena-Gyan gave the Black Stars a two-goal cushion three minutes later and Osman Bukari made it 3-0 four minutes before time.
The Black Stars will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Central African Republic while Madagascar will host Angola later in the evening on Sunday.
Libya 1-0 Botswana
SuperSport United defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe captained Botswana as they opened their Group J campaign with a narrow 1-0 loss against Libya at Martyrs of February Stadium.
After a goalless first stanza, Sanad Al Warfali had a chance to give Libya the lead nine minutes into the second stanza from the penalty spot but his spot-kick was saved by goalkeeper Goitseone Phoko.
However, Saleh Taher eventually broke the deadlock for the Mediterranean Knights a minute later from with a strike in the box from a set-piece situation and that proved to be the winner.
Libya will resume their campaign away to Equatorial Guinea on Monday evening while the Zebras will have another tough outing on home soil against Tunisia on Sunday afternoon.
Angola 2-1 Central African Republic
Angola had a perfect start in Group E after edging Central African Republic 2-1 at Estadio 11 de Novembro.
Samuel Nlend broke the deadlock for CAR just after the half-hour mark and Angola had a big chance to equalise from the spot-kick on the hour-mark but Fredy Ribeiro missed the target with his penalty.
However, M’Bala Nzola eventually levelled matters for the hosts 18 minutes before time and Gelson Dala found the winner four minutes later.
