Ghana will face DR Congo for a place in the 2023 Africa U23 Cup of Nations after defeating Mozambique in the second round of the qualifiers.
Black Meteors won 2-1 in Maputo last week and 2-0 in Kumasi on Sunday to advance to the final round 4-1 on aggregate.
Hearts of Oak striker Daniel Afriyie Barnieh scored both goals in Maputo, and he was on target again in the second leg, scoring the second goal from the spot after Sylvester Simba’s opener for the Black Meteors.
Barnieh, who has been tipped to make Ghana’s squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, was clinical from 12 yards out, as all three goals were penalties.
Coach Ibrahim Tanko’s side will face DR Congo, who overcame Algeria 5-4 on aggregate in the second round. DR Congo beat Algeria 4-1 in the first leg at home, which proved crucial after they were defeated 3-1 in the second leg on Sunday.
The final round games will be played in March 2023, with the tournament scheduled for June in Morocco.
