Ghana will receive $2 million if the Black Galaxies win the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algeria, thanks to a 60% increase by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

As part of its goal to raise the value of continental tournaments, CAF stated that the winner of this year’s competition will get US$750,000 more than Morocco did two years ago [US$1,250,000].

The overall prize money for the event has been increased to US$ 7,900,000, up from US$ 5,450,000 in the previous edition, which was dispersed among participating countries.

Ghana is hoping to reach the competition’s final for the third time and eventually win it for the first time after qualifying from the group stage.

Black Galaxies play Niger in the quarter-finals on Saturday in a fixture which appears to be a very crucial one because if they win and even fail to win their subsequent matches, thus semi-finals and finals, they would have a chance of receiving at least $500,000.

This is because CAF also indicated that the runners-up will earn US$800,000, while the losers of both semi-finals will receive $500,000 apiece.

Ghana can still get $400,000 if they lose to Niger because it is the sum granted to all quarter-finalists who do not advance to the tournament’s semi-finals.

The competition is slated to conclude on February 4 with the final at Nelson Mandela Stadium.
