AMPAIN- The camp base of Nzema Kotoko football Club
BACKGROUND
Ampain is a coastal town in Ellembelle District of the Western Region.
The community is located in between Azulenoanu from the west and Ayanzinli(New Bakanta) from the east.
The town has a population of 935, they mostly speaks Nzema and sometimes French due to the establishment of the Ivorian refugee camp.
HISTORY
According to our reliable search, the community was first settled as few family members at the coastal belt to do fishing around 1930’s.
They move from old coastal town and settled at where they are now, it’s only river Amazule which separates the old and new town.
RELIGION
Total citizens of the area are mainly Christians with few moslems.
CULTURE
The Ampain community is served as the traditional capital of most populous Islamic Community called “Kambumgli”.
They celebrate rich Kundum in October.
Traditional libation known as “Sieedu”is performed spiritually to welcome the “gods and ancestors”as normal tradition is believed to climatize the seasonal festival.
Ampain is where such rituals are performed.
CHIEFTAINCY
Nana Nyameke FofolÉ› II is the chief of the area. He is the third chief of Ampain.
Nana Ampain is currently the traditional secretary to the Paramount Chief (Omahene) of the Eastern Nzema Traditional council( Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III).
ECONOMY
The place is one of the few communities with the highest number of unemployment rates which stands at 60% of the total population.
Fishing and farming are their main occupation.
TOURISM
It has one of the interesting tourist sites.
The Aya Elderly care, Ellembelle food bank,The Trip Bar & Restaurant are all situated at the Aya community Centre.
Ellembelle’s only FM Station West End Radio 100.3 FM is also located in the Ampain township.
The house of Nzema-maanle Traditional council which is under construction can be found there.
Ampain refugee camp which was created to housed the liveless Ivorians because of the civil is also located there.
SPORTS
Nzema Kotoko have their camp base and club house in the area.
Their new stadium which is under construction too is also located I’m the community.
They have Efos fc and New Generation as their only Division II sides.
NOTABLE FIGURES
Nana Nyameke FofolÉ› II is arguably the most popular personality.
The spiritual and Evangelist Prophet Joseph Waja Afful of Blessed key prayer camp and young vibrant Journalist Eric Somiah Andoh are one of the few notable names of the area.
