“I have just officially announced it this morning during the laying of the first stone of the Dimbokro Agora on the sidelines of the commemoration of the 1st edition of the International Day of Sport in the Service of Development and Peace” . These words are from Mr. Paulin Claude Danho.

The Minister of Sports thus confirmed the information that quickly spread about the name of three stadiums built to host the CAN 2023. These are the stadiums of Korhogo, Yamoussoukro and San Pedro.

In Korhogo, and as announced by long-standing rumors, the stadium will bear the name of the late Amadou Gon Coulibaly, former Ivorian Prime Minister who died on July 8, 2020, and from the region.

In Yamoussoukro, the stadium whose name has not been filtered will be called Charles Konan Banny, after another former Prime Minister of Côte d’Ivoire who also died (September 10, 2021).

Still in the series of men to the late, the San Pedro stadium will be in the name of Laurent Pokou, legend of Ivorian football, ex-striker of the Elephants, who died on November 13, 2016.

Note that this naming was done by Alassane Ouattara, President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, on the proposal of the Minister of Sports, Paulin Claude Danho.

The 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations begins on January 13 and ends on February 11, 2024.
