Ghana Football Association Executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo says his comments concerning ex-footballers and football administration have been misconstrued by the media.

The football administrator had earlier advised that education must be prioritised by people who are willing to occupy roles to help in running football following Stephen Appiah’s advocacy for former players to be recognized when it comes to leadership roles in Ghana football.

“Samuel Eto’o is the FA president for Cameroon. He needed to go to school so he can better himself academically. He joined associations that are affiliated with their FA before making plans to contest. If Stephen Appiah wants to play a key role or wants to lead the GFA, he needs to have better academic knowledge and certificates,” he told Onua FM.

The response invited criticisms from a number of Ghanaians who felt the comments were needless and disrespectful to Stephen Appiah and other ex-footballers.

However, Oduro Sarfo has blamed journalists for misinforming the public.

“I’m extremely disappointed with the way journalists in the country have been able to misinterpret what I said. I didn’t say anything to disrespect Stephen Appiah,” he told Happy FM.

“I haven’t even heard his interview, I just read a script of what he said during the interview he granted. My response to that was, such comments should not come from a person who has a good relationship with the FA like Stephen.

“The FA has had discussions with him on affairs of the Black Stars. Speaking on running the administration of football by ex-players, I just advised that they undergo training to acquire the necessary knowledge to run affairs when they are in charge. Are these comments disrespectful? The comments were wrongly reported.” Oduro Sarfo said.
