Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Premier League side, Kotoku Royals, has revealed that unfulfilled promises made by some politicians are the reason for his side struggles in the 2022/23 BetPawa Premier League.
The Akim Oda-based club qualified for the topflight from ZONE III in 2022 season, but they are currently languishing at the bottom of the league table, with only 23 points from 29 games played so far and technically their chances of surviving looking unlikely with just 4 games left to spare.
According to the team’s spokesperson, Okatakyie Afrifa sighted by Footballghana, some Members of Parliament and Special Advisors to the President, including honourable Yaw Osafo Marfo, honourable Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, and others, had promised to help them improve the Oda Sports Stadium to Premier League standards.
“When we qualified for Premier League, a section of Members of Parliament [mentioned names], [promised to help complete our stadium],” he told Radio Gold.
“They all met the team in Accra and had lunch with us then after that, they promised us that if it is only left with just a month to kick off the BetPawa Premier League, they will make sure that they will make the stadium to the standard of the Premier League level for us to play our matches at the Oda Sports Stadium.”
However, Kotoku Royals have not been able to play any match at the Oda Sports Stadium as promised, despite being in week 29 of the league.
The team spokesperson also claimed that the politicians who made the promises did not provide any support, not even a bag of cement, towards completing the stadium.
