Mourinho expressed his frustration towards the official, suggesting that Taylor “seemed Spanish.” The match ended with Sevilla winning on penalties, marking Mourinho’s first defeat in a European final. The game was marred by numerous yellow cards, with Taylor issuing a record-breaking 14, and featuring nearly 30 minutes of stoppage time.

In a post-match interview, Mourinho described the game as intense and vibrant but criticized the officiating, claiming that it resulted in a continuous flow of yellow cards. Following the match, footage circulated on social media showing Mourinho using strong language towards the officials in the car park, expressing his discontent with their performance.

UEFA is currently awaiting the referee’s match report before deciding whether any action should be taken against Mourinho. The defeat not only prevented Roma from qualifying for next season’s Champions League but also raised speculation about Mourinho’s future in the Italian capital, with reports linking him to Paris St Germain.

Paris St Germain has shown initial interest in Mourinho potentially becoming their next manager. The French champions will assess their options at the end of the season, as their current head coach, Christophe Galtier, is set to be out of contract in 2024.

Speaking to Sky Sports Italia, Mourinho addressed his uncertain future, explaining that he must prioritize fighting for his current team before making any objective decisions. He revealed that he had discussions with the club in December when there was interest from the Portuguese national team but has had no contact with other clubs since then. Mourinho has one year remaining on his contract with Roma.

Despite the disappointment of the loss, Mourinho expressed pride in his team’s performance throughout the season and acknowledged the toll it had taken on them. He described the defeat as unjust, citing several debatable incidents, but emphasized the importance of maintaining dignity and professionalism. Mourinho handed his runners-up medal to a fan in the stands after the presentation, stating his preference not to keep silver medals.

The defeat in the Europa League final marked the end of Roma’s season, leaving Mourinho reflecting on the efforts of his players and their commitment to the club. Despite the outcome, he returned home feeling prouder than ever, acknowledging the dedication displayed by his team.
