Ibrahim Tanko, the coach of the Ghanaian national U-23 team, known as the Black Meteors, has stated that the final squad for the U23 AFCON tournament will be selected based on the players’ performance.
After a preparation match against the defending champions, Egypt, which ended in a 1-1 draw, Coach Tanko expressed his intention to give everyone a chance to prove themselves. He mentioned that these friendly matches allow him to assess each player, and in the next game, he plans to see other players in action to have a fair idea of who to select for the tournament.
In the match against Egypt, Afriyie Barnieh, a former striker for Hearts of Oak, scored a penalty in the 9th minute to give Ghana the lead after Issahaku Fatawu was fouled. However, Egypt managed to equalize a few minutes before half-time.
The players will have to justify their inclusion in the squad for the U23 AFCON tournament, which begins on June 24 and will be broadcast live on Max TV
