All fines imposed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on the players who were found guilty of match-fixing in the game between Inter Allies and AshantiGold SC have been reversed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The GFA has also been ordered to pay $7,357, with each player receiving $345.77 as compensation.
Following investigations conducted by the Disciplinary Committee of the GFA, both AshGold and Inter Allies were demoted to Division Two of the Ghana Premier League. Additionally, 21 players who were declared guilty of manipulating match results on the final day of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League faced sanctions.
However, the players were allowed to continue playing competitive football after the Professional Football Association of Ghana (PFAG) lodged a complaint on their behalf through the International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPro). CAS granted them the benefit of the doubt as they investigated the matter.
CAS is convinced with their investigations and has therefore overturned all sanctions imposed by the GFA on the players. This ruling brings a significant conclusion to the match-fixing case, providing relief to the players who have maintained their innocence throughout the process.
