Black Stars Head Coach, Chris Hughton, believes Ghana were the better side despite the shocking 1-0 win against Comoros in the second Group I game of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers at the OmniSports Stadium in Moroni on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.

Hertha Berlin’s Myziane Maolida’s solitary strike condemned the Black Stars to a second defeat against Comoros in a competitive fixture, with the first defeat coming at the 2021 AFCON, Comoros triumphing over the Stars with a 3-2 win in the final group game.

Ghana now sits fourth on the table with 3 points, behind Madagascar, Mali & Comoros heading into the next set of qualifiers in June 2024.

It is Chris Hughton’s first loss as Head Coach of the Black Stars in a competitive game, with the other two losses coming in the October friendlies against the United States of America and Mexico.

Chris Hughton started the qualifying series with a 1-0 win against Madagascar at the Baba Yara Sports, but Ghana failed to secure a win against Comoros, with the former Brighton & Hove Albion Coach bemoaning his side’s inability to convert the chances created against the Islanders.

We will play Comoros again, but first of all congratulations to Comoros for the victory.

In my opinion, over the 90mins, we were the better team, we conceded what we regard as a poor goal to concede.

We were not able to capitalise on the chances that we had, this was not in the game. Comoros by far in this game were comfortable.

The Black Stars of Ghana have ended the first set of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers with 3 points from a possible 6 following a 1-0 win against Madagascar at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Friday, November 17 and a shocking 1-0 loss to Comoros at the Stade Moroni on Tuesday, November 21.
