The Head Coach of the club, Nurudeen Amadu, emphasised that their goal was to finish among the top four teams, which he considered to be a realistic target even if winning the league title might be overly ambitious.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic in an interview yesterday, Coach Amadu stressed the need to improve upon the previous season’s performance, while regarding winning the league as a bonus for the young club.

The former King Faisal coach attributed Samartex’s current position to hard work and credited the management for its significant contribution to the club’s remarkable turnaround.

“As a young club, if we win the league that would be good for us, but we want to improve upon last season’s performance and even if we don’t win the league, we should be among the top four,” he said.

Despite occupying the summit of the league log, Coach Amadu acknowledged the need to strengthen the squad during the January transfer window.

He pointed out that most of his players were brought from the second-tier league and, therefore, lacked experience, so the focus was to recruit established players to augment the squad.

Looking ahead to the much tougher second round of the league, he emphasised the importance of analysing the team’s strengths and weaknesses after the first round.

“What we intend to do after the first round is to sit down and analyse our team and see our strengths and weaknesses and see if we can beef up the team in certain positions.

He expressed the belief that recruiting quality players was essential for staying competitive in the upcoming matches, as other teams would be closely watching us and every match would be like a final.

“The second round is going to be tougher than we think, and as it is now, everybody is going to be looking at us. If we play any match, it’s going to be like the grand finale, so it is not something we need to sleep over,” he said.
