Mauritania extends coach Amir Abdou’s contract until 2026

The Mauritanian Football Federation has extended the contract of coach, Amir Abdou, until 2026, after the latter led the Mourabitounes to a distinguished participation in the CAF TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Côte d’Ivoire 2023.

Mauritania qualified, for the first time in its history, for the second round of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, before being eliminated in the round of 16 by Cape Verde (1-0).

The Mauritanian Football Federation announced, Thursday, February 8, that it had extended the contract of the coach, Amir Abdou, through an official press release, which specifies the following: “  The Mauritanian Football Federation announces that it has reached an agreement with the coach of the national team Mr. Amir Abdou, for a contract extension until 2026 ”.  

The Comorian coach, who has been at the helm of Mauritania since March 2022, led the Mourabitounes to record their first victory in the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, after 3 full participations during which the team had not experienced any victory. Amir Abdou and his men dominated Algeria 1-0 in Group D of CAN CAF TotalEnergies.

Coach Amir Abdou intends to continue his brilliance with Mauritania and achieve good results in the future, notably by qualifying for the final phase of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations TotalEnergies Morocco 2025 for the fourth consecutive time in the the country’s history, as well as qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
