Basake Holy Stars secured their first home win of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season following their victory over Karela United.
The Basake based club needed a late strike from their darling boy Prince Opoku to clinch the maximum points at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park on Sunday afternoon.
Holy Stars had gone four games with no win in the league after losing beating Hearts of Oak 1-0 in the opening match.
Despite ending the game with ten men, the newly promoted side were able to claimed their first home win of the season.
This much-needed victory comes after three consecutive losses in the league.
The decisive moment came in the 80th minute when Prince Opoku found the back of the net, securing the vital three points for Abdulai Gazale’s side.
His goal brought much-needed relief to the team, which had been struggling to regain form after their initial triumph.
The hard-fought win demonstrated resilience and determination, qualities that will be crucial as they navigate the challenges of top-flight football.
Karela, meanwhile, continue to search for their first win of the season in front of their home fans.
Despite showing glimpses of finding their rhythm, they were unable to break through Holy Stars’ defence.
The result leaves Karela with more questions as they look to regroup and bounce back in their next fixture.
The win boosts morale for Holy Stars as they aim to stabilize their performance and climb the league table.
