Former Ghana international, Augustine Ahinful remains optimistic about Black Stars’ future but cautioned that a required plan will be needed.
The four-time African champions are winless in their first three games of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The Black Stars sit 3rd in Group F with two points. The team opened their qualifying games with a 1-0 defeat against Angola before a 1-1 draw against Niger.
In the first leg of the doubleheader against Sudan, the senior national team were held to a goalless scoreline at the Accra Sports Stadium last week Thursday.
Amid the struggle, Ahinful believes there is hope for the team but a required plan will be needed to reach where they want to reach.
“There is hope, I think the Black Stars can never be a ship, because the ship will sink and sink forever,” he told Citi News.
“It will be even difficult to salvage it but this is sports and so you can have phases where you will go down. Your performance will not be encouraging, but with the right mindset and plan, I am sure you will be able to revive, come back, and be where you are expected to be.
“The ship is not sinking, there is a future but we need to first of all plan and plan well,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars have arrived in Libya ahead of their crucial second-leg match against Sudan.
The team is scheduled to hold a mandatory training session at the Martyrs of February Stadium later tonight, with the match set to kick off on Tuesday at 13:00 GMT.
The Black Stars must secure a win against the Falcons to keep their qualification hopes alive.
