Nzema Kotoko are the most popular club in Nzema, few names in the Western Region evoke the same reverence as Nzema Kotoko when it comes to football.

Captain Traore demands answers after Burkina Faso lose World Cup playoff spot to Nigeria

The Red Armies, as they are affectionately called, have long been regarded as the truly traditional club on the land, a club whose exploits on the national stage once struck fear into the hearts of opponents in Ghana right after the 2019 NC Special Tournament.

However, as the 2023/24 season concludes, the harsh reality Nzema Kotoko’s current predicament can no longer be ignored, the club nearly went to relegation before a late victory from Karela against Medeama SC saved the situation to remain in the league.

The Nzema’s most admirable club now find themselves mired in a crisis of form and identity, a far cry from the glory days that saw them on the biggest platform during NC Special Tournament to etch their name into Ghana football history.

In the ongoing 2024/25 Division One League season, the Atwe club have no points after 3 games having lost to King Faisal at home and two losses against Rospak and Soccer Intellectuals.

One may ask, what really the problem and the decline nature of the club after historic position in the 2022/23 Division One League season.

Fast forward to the present day, the Atwe club find themselves in the throes of a season that has gone beyond anything that ever imagined. The aura of invisibility under, Chris Lokko, Henry Wellington, Mallam Yahaya, Kobi Mensah, Seth Hoffman, Felix Tamakloe, Prince George Kwofie has been completely shattered as every team will smile at the opportunity to face Nzema Kotoko at the moment.

They made a very big mistake for letting their two powerful figures joined their counterparts, Experienced Edmund Ackah and Dr.Gilbert Nyanskon who later made history with Samartex and Basake Holy Stars respectively, not forgetting Mohammed Wasui ( Matata), Nana Ainoo Kwegyan II, Tijani Mumuni, Lord Kiki Zani, Joe Sam etc.

With just 3 games into the games, Nzema Kotoko finds themselves in the 15th position just goal difference above the bottom team.

The form of the Ampain based club since 2023 has been atrocious.

Just one win out of the nine matches in 2024 while losing a remarkable eight.

As the dust settles on another disappointing campaign, the burning question remains; What has caused this once-mighty giant to fall so precipitously since last season’s campaign.

Within 2 seasons, the club has fired 5 coaches and dissolved numerous management teams without any explanations, still the team continues to decline.

For some, the answer lies in a lack of stability and continuity with the club’s hierarchy.

A revolving door of coaching appointments which has seen 20 coaches taking charge of the club since its inception and frequent upheaval at the executive level have undoubtedly taken their toll with players and staff alike unable to establish a consistent philosophy approach.

The club’s management lacks sporting ideals and most current leaders are not equipped with modern day management skills, key reasons the club is falling.

Regardless of whatever the root causes of Nzema Kotoko issues are, one thing which is very clear, they always find a way to survive this even at a critical juncture.

For the fans, whose unwavering loyalty has been tested by last season and this current disappointment, the hope remains that the club leadership will take decisive action to address the underlying issues to return to its glory days.

With these attitudes and wrong direction by the management who we are yet to be known, what is certain is that the road back to the summit of national football will be a long one for the Red Armies side.

Karela, Nations, Samartex and GoldStars whose boast of well structured administration made it to the Premier League in their first – third seasons.

And just recently Basake Holy Stars who joined the league just two seasons ago have gone past them to be promoted to Ghana’s topflight football.

For a club with such attitudes and always sacrificing the innocent faces, the prospect of rising from the aches is not merely a possibility, it is imperative.

As the Proverbs say” Akye a na onnbui y3 ” ( there’s still more room improvement).

“Whatever the case, Atwe Nzema Kotoko needs new faces to change the dimension of the club and stop sacrificing the innocent ones while the real culprits are there “unharmed”

“I have been a victim before and will continue saying the truth and charge and criticize the leaders constructively until proper things are done “

A word to Wise is enough.

“Sorry for all innocent faces who have been sacrificed due to the club’s bad leadership”
