Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kwesi Nyantakyi has called for psychological support for Otto Addo and the Black Stars’ technical team to address recent challenges.
Addo, 49, has faced intense criticism after failing to lead Ghana’s senior national team to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) – the first time in two decades that Ghana will miss the prestigious tournament.

Amid growing calls for Addo’s dismissal, Nyantakyi has suggested a different approach to improving the team’s performance: hiring a psychologist to support the technical team.

“I think that apart from the players, Otto Addo and the technical team need a psychologist. The day we played against Niger in Accra, Otto Addo stormed the pitch after we scored a consolation goal,” he told Asempa FM’s Sports Nite.

“I saw that there was a psychological problem there. What triggered him to storm the pitch is a psychological problem,” he added.

The Black Stars are set to regroup in March for Matchday five and six of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where they will aim to rebuild and bounce back from recent setbacks.
