The renowned football great, Abedi Pele, was named African best player on three occasions from 1991-1993.

Additionally, Abedi Pele was a member of Ghana’s squad that last won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 1982.

He also led Ghana to a runners-up finish in 1992, further cementing his legendary status.

The crowning point of Abedi Pele’s career came when he starred in Marseille’s 1993 Uefa Champions League win.

His sons, however, have struggled to replicate their father’s feat, with the closest any of them have come to clinching a major trophy with Ghana, coming in the 2010 & 2015 AFCON, where the Black Stars finished as runners-up.

On an individual level, Andre Ayew’s second place finish in the 2011 and 2015 African player of the year is the closest any of Abedi’s sons have come to winning the coveted crown.

Reflecting on his career at 33, Jordan Ayew, who now captains the Black Stars, revealed how difficult it is to come after his dad.

“My dad has done a lot, for not only me, but my whole family, Jordan told Leicester City.

“It is not so easy to come after your father in the sense of the expectations being so high back home and in Europe, he added.
